SLATE & STONE ROOFING
Slate and stone roofing specialists
Careful repairs and complete re-roofing for traditional homes across Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Traditional roofs need the right approach
Natural slate and local stone roofs depend on correct gauge, headlap, fixing, sorting and weathering details. We assess the covering, battens, underlay, valleys, ridges, chimneys and wall junctions before deciding whether targeted repair or full renewal is appropriate.
Slate and stone work
- Slipped, cracked and missing slate replacement
- Natural slate and stone re-roofing
- Ridge, verge, valley and leadwork repairs
- Chimney, soaker and flashing work
- Breathable membrane, battens and ventilation upgrades
We regularly work on older stone properties around Barnoldswick, Colne, Clitheroe, Whalley, Skipton, Settle and the Yorkshire Dales. For a full replacement, see complete re-roofing; for active leaks, see roof repairs.
Repair, reuse or replace?
Where sound original material can be reused, we will say so. Where previous patching or widespread failure means a repair is unlikely to last, we explain the alternatives clearly.
Can the existing slate or stone be reused?
We assess the condition of the individual slates and their fixings, as well as the roof beneath. A sound-looking surface does not by itself establish that the covering is suitable for reuse. The quotation should distinguish material to retain, replacement material and the work needed to the underlay, battens and roof junctions.
Compare two local slate roofing projects
The Clitheroe stone-slate project shows a pitched roof alongside an EPDM section and solar installation. The Barnoldswick terrace reroof shows new natural slate following removal of an old torch-on felt covering. These are different roof situations, and the specification is agreed for the individual property.
For local surveys and service details, see Clitheroe roofing, roofing in Skipton and Barnoldswick reroofing and repairs.
Welsh slate repair and stone-slate replacement: different jobs
The Welsh slate roof repaired after storm damage in Whalley retained its existing covering. The aim was to replace the damaged areas and leave the repair looking as close to untouched as possible.
By comparison, our Colne stone-slate roof rebuild involved a new structure and a complete new covering. Welsh slate and stone slate are different roofing materials; the repair or replacement specification needs to suit the covering and the condition found on that roof.
If you are unsure which work your property needs, our repair-or-replacement guide explains the questions to discuss at a survey.
